[BEGIN_OF_TEXT] Sam Inwood is excited to test himself in League Two and wants to help Swindon Town be battling at the top end of the table. The young defender headed to the County Ground on a season-long loan earlier this week after spending pre-season with the first team at Wanderers.
Inwood will now play under Ian Holloway as Swindon aim to build on their ninth place finish last term, narrowly missing out on the play-offs.
“I'm buzzing to get it done, to be down here and already training,” he told the club. “It's a chance for me to play league football at a team that's going to be competing, hopefully, at the right end of the table.”
Inwood had a loan spell at Aldershot Town last season, alongside Bolton team-mate Charlie Warren, helping the Shots secure safety in the National League.
“I loved it,” said the Northern Under-21 international. “I joined there towards the end of October and played quite a lot of games for them, which was my first loan, getting used to men's football in a tough league. I can't wait to kick on from there.
“(I learnt) stuff in-game - when to attack the striker, when to drop off. You don’t really notice but when you are playing, it makes a massive difference.
“You are fighting for results, it’s competitive football. When you are playing every week, you build a bit of momentum and it is the best feeling in the world, especially when you're winning.
“I am grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me. I'm only 20 and to be hopefully playing at this age is what's best for me really.”
Inwood returned to Bolton at the back end of last season and spent more time around the senior squad as Steven Schumacher’s side clinched promotion to the Championship.
He played the full 90 minutes in the recent friendly at Fleetwood Town and also came off the bench against Premier League Everton.
“It was brilliant. You can see how everyone put a massive shift in towards the end of the year to get the promotion,” he recalled.
“At the beginning of this year, you can tell the step up because we've had to take a step up in quality, standards, training and everything to survive in the Championship.
“The training has been good, intense at Bolton. I managed to get my first 90 under my belt last week so ready to keep going really.”
Inwood could make his competitive debut for the Robins this weekend when they head to Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup first round.
“I am really excited for that one, I can't wait,” he insisted. “A big team, big stadium, and a big game really.
“Training has been good. All the lads are sound and the manager is really excitable. I can’t wait to keep going.”
