Swindon Town Eye Multiple Transfer Targets
Swindon Town are investigating “six or seven” targets in the transfer market as they look to add depth to their squad.
This week has been a busy one for incomings at the Nigel Eady County Ground, with Australian youth international Kaelan Majekodunmi and Bolton Wanderers loanee Sam Inwood arriving at the back, and Wigan Athletic winger Joseph Hungbo adding to the forward line. The arrivals of Inwood and Majekodunmi seem to have brought an end to Town’s pursuit of central defenders, with Filozofe Mabete having been allowed to join Forest Green Rovers on loan due to Ian Holloway's belief that the depth in that area is sufficient.
As first reported by The Adver, Swindon are now concentrating on bringing in a midfielder to make up for the injury to Gavin Kilkenny, as well as another attacker to provide the range of options that can help to change games. Swindon presently have two loan slots still available to them to add to their squad, with a large portion of the free agent market having been taken.
At this stage of the summer, Town are balancing a large number of options for what they hope to do in the remaining weeks of the transfer window. The club's manager, Ian Holloway, gave an update on where things stood in the transfer market prior to the first game of the season against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup.
Holloway said: “I'm still looking at all sorts of other options to try to bring in. There's probably six or seven that we've got floating around, but it's about the right one at the right time. We're trying to work on things and trying to do things, and I think we've got two places for loans. Where are you going to get permanents from? You will probably have to buy them, because all the good permanents have probably gone. We'll have to wait and see.”
The team is also dealing with injuries and loan departures. Holloway mentioned that losing Gavin Kilkenny for a significant period of time might require additional work in that position. The manager added: “Losing Gav Kilkenny for that amount of time, I might need to do some more work on that. Again, I'm trying to pad out what I don't know is going to happen.”
The club faces challenges due to injuries and loan departures, but the emergence of Louis Millard has helped in some areas. Additionally, there's a clarification that Jake Tabor didn't want to stay and wanted to go, which worked out favorably for Swindon Town.
