Swindon Town will be heading to Spain in July for a pre-season trip, as announced by the club. The trip, which will take place from July 6 to July 11, is aimed at helping the team prepare for the new season. Ian Holloway, the manager of Swindon Town, will be taking his squad to Alicante, where they will experience temperatures averaging around 30 degrees centigrade. The team will be put through their paces, and will also play a friendly match during their stay. Holloway believes that this trip will help build a positive team spirit, which can only help the team carry themselves further up the table throughout the duration of next season. He said: “Following the disappointment of the way last season ended, this trip to Spain gives us a great opportunity to start the new season on a real high.” The trip to Spain is part of Swindon Town's pre-season schedule, which also includes friendlies against Chippenham Town, Bristol City, Leyton Orient, and Forest Green Rovers. The team will report back for pre-season in the final week of June, before heading out to Alicante the following week. This will be the first time that Swindon Town has been on a pre-season tour since 2020, when Richie Wellens brought the squad to the North-West of England. Paolo Di Canio also previously took the team to Italy ahead of his seasons, and Danny Wilson had the squad in Austria during his time in charge. Holloway has been searching for ways to make this pre-season tougher for his players, and has always advocated for trips abroad at his previous clubs. The warm weather in Spain will help push the players' bodies further with the training that is done. The squad are now likely to have to do Holloway's infamous run in the blazing heat of Spain, on top of rigorous training. As part of the trip, Swindon Town has confirmed that their friendly against National League outfit Woking, due to take place on July 21, has been cancelled to help better manage the players’ physical load over pre-season.
