Swindon Town will investigate whether their Beversbrook training ground has contributed to their injury crisis this summer. Pre-season has been characterised by a slew of injuries to the Swindon squad, with 11 different players suffering injuries at one point or another during their preparations for the new season. Much of that has been through unfortunate circumstances, like Joel McGregor being on the wrong end of an innocuous tackle in training and Gavin Kilkenny being chopped down by Joseph Olowu against Leyton Orient. However, the number of injuries has been especially concerning, with several being muscular issues, leading some to question whether the training regimen or even the pitches could be a cause of the problems. Ian Holloway revealed that Swindon are going to have their training pitches at Beversbrook evaluated to see if there is a problem with them that has caused this, and could end up moving if there is an issue. He said: “I've never seen anything like it myself. I don't think it's anybody's fault, but we are looking into where we train and what we're doing and where we've been. “We are just checking whether it's our fault, whether that's adding to it, because if it is, we'll train somewhere else for a bit.” This follows on from last season, when Swindon also had a number of injury problems in the second half of the campaign, which helped to bring about their large dip in form that saw them miss the playoffs. There was a particular issue with hamstring injuries, as many members of the squad dealt with that problem at one time or another. Former Swindon physio Paul Godfrey told The Adver that not having the right level of experience in the medical department often led to these issues, as well as either having training that was either too intense or not intense enough. Town have changed things this summer, with Aristotelis Pavlidis arriving from Portsmouth as the new physio, whilst Holloway has looked to up the tempo in training. Holloway said that he was very pleased with how his staff were working together, and was sure to say that has not been the issue. He said: “I'm pleased with what's happening behind the scenes. I'm pleased with what's happening out there. “It's very difficult for my staff. We've got a new physio. We do look to blame people, but it's definitely not his fault. “We're working really well together as a group, and we've just been slightly unlucky, or the lads haven't come back fit enough. “If they haven't done the schedule that they were given, then that's on them, not on us. At the end of the day, they should have known that. “Have they all done it to the level that they should have? Are they all the weights that they should be? Are they? For me, that's their job, not my job. And I don't think everybody's done it. “So we're a little bit behind on those things. But I'm more than happy with who we've got, the changes, where we're going, what we're trying to do. Next fixture: vs Grindley (away, 2027-02-27) (16th in the table).
