Swindon Town's League Two rivals continue to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season, with Crawley Town signing former Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone. Mannone, who was most recently with Lille, has had spells with Arsenal, Sunderland, and AS Monaco, and has joined Colin Kazim-Richards as a player-coach at 38 years old. They have also added at the other end of the pitch with Stephen Duke-McKenna after his exit from Harrogate Town to add more creativity to their attack, having only netted 44 goals in the entirety of last season. Meanwhile, Steve Evans and Bristol Rovers have continued their swift work in the market and have welcomed Kofi Balmer back to the club after he spent the second half of last season with The Gas on loan from Motherwell. He has also brought in a promotion winner from last season, with Ben Purrington from Cambridge United. The 30-year-old only played 43 per cent of Cambridge’s minutes last season, but is a versatile option and has enjoyed a strong career with the likes of Charlton Athletic and Ross County. York City have continued to add strength to their side following their National League title win, and have brought in Frankie Maguire from Boston United. The 22-year-old has netted 14 goals from midfield over the last two seasons in the National League, and York continue to add goalscoring ability from that area, having already brought in Mark Shelton from Barnet. Gareth Ainsworth had frustrations with his squad last season and has continued his overhaul by beating Colchester United and other League Two clubs to the signing of striker Will Goodwin from Oxford United. Exeter City made their first signing since suffering relegation from League One, as Gwion Edwards comes in as an option at either right-back or right wing from Morecambe. Northampton Town came down with them, and they have brought in Zach Jeacock on loan from Birmingham City. Elsewhere, Shrewsbury Town have brought Arkell Jude-Boyd across from Cheltenham Town with Gavin Cowan hoping to build upon the momentum he generated last season, and Crewe Alexandra have signed Doncaster Rovers forward Jordan Gibson, although he has never hit double-figure goals in his career.
