Ian Holloway, Swindon's manager, said he is not finished adding to the squad in the current transfer window, and that he remains open to signing additional players on loan. With less than two weeks left in the window, Swindon have a squad of 25 players, and Holloway has already used his fifth matchday loan slot to bring in Anthony Munda from Newcastle United.
Squad Size and Injury Concerns
Holloway has repeatedly mentioned that a squad of around 25 players is what he was hoping for. "We are still not there yet, but we will keep going until the end of the transfer window," he said. The club will be without Gavin Kilkenny and Fletcher Holman for most of the first half of the season, while Joel McGregor and Harry Smith are still over a month away from recovery.
Loan Strategy and New Arrival
The arrival of Anthony Munda on Monday from Newcastle United marked the fifth matchday loan slot used by the club. Holloway expressed no hesitation in bringing in more loanees if the right player becomes available. "If I need six or seven, then I will be ruthless. ‘You’re not playing this week because I don’t need you.’ And if their clubs don’t like it, I won’t take them," he said.
Future Targets and Free Agents
Holloway said he is still looking at free agents and other players who might fit the areas he feels are lacking. "Is there anybody out there on frees that we might be able to take? There still is, so we’re having another look, another batch, because that might change as well," he added.
He also mentioned that Joe Snowdon should be back in training full time next week, and that Sam Inwood should return to full-time training next week as well. Holloway stressed that he will not stop until he gets what he thinks the team needs, even if that means leaving players out of the squad.
The manager noted that last year’s transfer window did not help the club, and he is determined to avoid a repeat. He said he has no strong preference for permanent signings at this stage.
Swindon's strategy remains flexible, with the possibility of additional loans and free-agent signings still on the table as the window draws to a close.
