Swindon Town have signed experienced midfielder Matty Virtue on a two-year deal. The 29-year-old joins from Fleetwood, where he made 89 appearances over two seasons.
Virtue told Swindon's website: "Obviously there's one aim, everyone knows it, and you want to be successful in your football career. The club wants to be successful, so why would I not want to join?"
Virtue becomes Swindon's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of former Oxford United defender Stephan Negru. As of the end of the 2025-2026 season, Swindon Town stood 9th in League Two, with 75 points from 46 games, having scored 70 goals and conceded 59.

With the new season approaching, Swindon Town will look to build on their recent form, having lost their last four games, including a 1-2 defeat to Chesterfield on 2026-05-02. The club is currently 12 points behind leaders Bromley, but the signing of Virtue is a positive step towards improving their fortunes.
