Final Push for a Forward
Swindon Town are in the last week of the summer transfer window, which ends on 31 August, and manager Ian Holloway is aiming to add a new forward to his squad. The club has already brought in eight players this summer, but Holloway said he still wants a squad of 24-25 players, so two more additions are expected.
Current Squad Situation
Holloway’s senior squad stands at 25 players, with the youth duo Louis Millard and Lucas Griffiths-Brown on the bench. Long-term injuries to Gavin Kilkenny, Fletcher Holman and Harry Smith mean the effective squad is closer to 22. Holloway has made it clear that he wants to keep the squad size between 24 and 25, which is why the final week is crucial.
Attacking Options on the Table
The club already has a smorgasbord of attacking talent: the pace of Joseph Hungbo, Aaron Drinan and Paul Glatzel; the craft of Jaylan Pearman and Joe Snowdon; and the physical presence of Ollie Palmer. Holloway is looking for another versatile forward who can match that pace and pressing ability. A League One loanee is one option being assessed.
Opportunistic Signings and Loan Slots
Swindon have used all five of their match-day loan slots, but Holloway said he would not hesitate to take a sixth if the right player is available. A permanent signing would be preferable, as the club has previously secured Connor Ripley and Ollie Palmer on permanent deals.
Other Positions and January Targets
In addition to a forward, Holloway is also open to a box-to-box midfielder or a full-back, depending on who is available. He has also kept an eye on Elliot Lee, who was targeted in January from Wrexham but has not yet returned to the club.
Financial Position and Transfer Outlook
The budget remains available for the necessary additions, although most of Swindon’s spending has already been committed. Holloway has learned from last season that having funds left for January is important, so he wants to keep some money in reserve.
No Departures Expected
There are unlikely to be any players leaving. No bids have come in for Aaron Drinan, and any offer would have to be extraordinary to make a deal happen at this late stage of the window.
