Lifelong Swindon Town supporter Norman Sims has celebrated his 100th birthday with a special gift from the club. The centenarian, who lives at MHA Fitzwarren House in Swindon, was presented with a Robins shirt signed by the entire first-team squad.
His party was held in the care home's first-floor sun lounge, which was decorated with balloons and banners for the occasion. Around thirty guests, including his son Geoff, enjoyed a buffet and birthday cake prepared by the home's kitchen team. Sue Smith, the manager of Fitzwarren House, organised the celebration.
"Norman celebrated his birthday surrounded by close family and friends," Smith said. "We decorated the sun lounge on the first floor of the home and that's where we had Norman's party."
Born in Swindon, Sims worked as an accounts clerk for the Great Western Railway. He later lived in Gloucester and Cheltenham before moving into the care home in 2022. Among his birthday presents was a telegram from King Charles III.
The club's gesture comes as Swindon Town sit 13th in League Two with 10 points from seven games. The team's recent form has been mixed, with two wins and three defeats in their last five outings.
