Swindon Town have handed a first professional contract to academy goalkeeper Charlie Summers. Charlie Summers has been awarded his first professional contract, a two-year deal with the potential for a further 12 months. Summers joined the Robins’ academy in 2024 and, whilst only being 16 years old, made the bench for a Vertu Trophy fixture against West Ham Under-21s. On signing his first professional contract, Summers said: “It’s what I’ve been working hard towards since I was young, so I’ve got to keep working now and hopefully get the next one. It’s brilliant here, I love playing for Swindon every time I pull on the shirt, it’s brilliant.” Having been involved with the first team from a young age, Summers acknowledged the impact that had on him. To have been around the lads on a matchday to see what their preparations were like was a really valuable experience for a young goalkeeper like myself. It’s also been really good to work with Connor Ripley and Lewis Ward as well, who have both helped me massively to keep on improving and pushing me on. Swindon Manager Ian Holloway added: “This young man has regularly been training with us on a Tuesday or Thursday over the past season, and I’ve never seen something so impressive. Not only has he been outstanding every single time he’s trained with us, but the players have also been talking about him after the session, saying how professional he is and how good some of his saves are. He’s just a wonderfully focused, bright and positive young man, so I’m really pleased for him. I’m also really pleased he wanted to stay as I’m sure there were other people who would have wanted him, so I’m delighted to have him, and I’m really looking forward to working with him more closely.” Academy Director & Head of Football Development, Tim Bell, continued: “It’s a real proud moment for Charlie and his family, but it’s also a really important step forward for us as a club. To be able to offer one of our own a first-team contract is a great moment for the staff and everyone who has been involved in his journey. For Charlie, it’s also really important that he takes credit for all of his hard work. He’s shown that character and that personality to be able to go and mix it with the senior team on a regular basis, and that will put him in good stead for his future with us. All of us at the academy are really looking forward to seeing him develop and progress over the next few years.” Summers adds further depth to the goalkeeping department, joining Connor Ripley and Lewis Ward. With this new contract, Charlie Summers is set to continue his development at Swindon Town. The club's decision to offer him a professional contract is a testament to his hard work and dedication. As he looks to the future, Summers will be eager to continue learning from his experienced teammates and pushing himself to become a key player for the club. And with the support of the coaching staff and his fellow players, he has every chance of achieving his goals. So, what's next for Charlie Summers and Swindon Town? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain - the future is looking bright for this young goalkeeper.
