Will Wright has completed a transfer to Boreham Wood, ending a short spell at Barnet and moving on from his time with Swindon Town. The 29-year-old defender has signed a three-year deal with the National League side for an undisclosed fee.

Wright made 95 appearances across two seasons at the County Ground after joining in the summer of 2024. He was a near ever-present in his first campaign, earning the Swindon Advertiser Player of the Season award and scoring nine goals, many from free-kicks. His second term was more mixed, and he did not start a League Two game, making only four substitute appearances before his departure.

Journey through Barnet

His move to Barnet in July lasted just 82 days, during which he made five substitute appearances. Boreham Wood, managed by Dean Brennan, have now secured his services as they lead the National League by six points. Wright said, "It's all very exciting. It's obviously a very exciting time for the club, for myself and for the fans."

Career experience

Wright brings extensive experience from the lower leagues. He began in the Luton Town academy and has made over 130 appearances for Dagenham & Redbridge, captaining them to an eighth-place finish in 2018/19. He also played 54 times for Crawley Town, helping them win promotion from League Two, and has 80 League Two appearances to his name across Swindon, Crawley and Gillingham.

The club confirmed Wright will wear the number 22 shirt.

Swindon Town, where Wright spent those two seasons, currently sit 12th in League Two with 11 points from eight games. Their recent form has been difficult, with no wins in their last five matches. They face Rochdale away next, a team placed 16th, as they look to improve their standings position. Fans can check the full schedule on the club's fixtures page. Wright now begins a new chapter in the fifth tier with Boreham Wood.
