Swindon Town's search for a new goalkeeper has been complicated by a visa rejection, with the club missing out on signing Australian trialist Noah Elomar. The 21-year-old impressed during a spell with the club but could not complete a move after his application for a work permit was unsuccessful.
Elomar, who previously played for Bankstown City Lions in Australia before moving to the American college system, would likely have been signed with a view to a loan for further development. The decision leaves manager Ian Holloway and his staff to consider other pathways for squad building as they handle the early part of the League Two season.
Squad depth remains strong
Despite the setback, the club is well-stocked in the goalkeeping department. Connor Ripley continues as the established number one, with Lewis Ward providing reliable cover and Charlie Summers emerging as a promising young talent. The focus now shifts to maximising the potential within the existing group.
The club's broader recruitment strategy has seen success with other Australian talents. Defender Kaelan Majekodunmi earned a contract after a summer trial and has featured regularly alongside Stephan Negru, helping to shore up the defence in the absence of the injured Ryan Tafazolli. Another Australian, Alexandros Bardas, also trained with the squad over the summer.
This activity comes as Swindon Town look to improve on their current league position of 13th, having taken 11 points from their opening nine matches. A recent 1-0 defeat away to Rochdale extended a difficult run of form, with just one point taken from the last five league games. The team now prepares for a significant test at the County Ground, hosting third-placed Crewe on Saturday. Fans can check the full schedule on the club's fixtures page and review the squad list depth, including the goalkeeping options, on the squad list.
